Galway found themselves two down at half-time even though they matched the League Champions for most of the first half. Two poorly defended goals was the difference between the sides at the interval and at the final whistle after a disappointing performance by United.

Jason Byrne put Bohs one up on 31 minutes after a defensive mistake by United. A long ball forward was missed by Garry Breen and was then fresh aired by Shane Guthrie, Jason Byrne broke clear and clinically finished past Barry Ryan.

Galway almost equalised on 33 minutes after Derek O'Brien split the Bohs defence. Brian Murphy got the faintest of touches to deflect the ball wide.

Bohs got their second goal on 44 minutes after an Owen Heary corner from the left was flicked into the top right corner of the net by the unmarked Jason Byrne for his second.

Foster tried to shake things up with the introduction of Dave Cooke and Declan Edwards on 56 and 60 minutes respectively.

Barry Ryan was called into action on 61 minutes when he tipped over a delightful Killian Brennan lob from the right hand side.

On 65 minutes Vinny Faherty beat the off-side trap, however, he hesitated in the box and Heary was on hand to block.

United struggled to get their game going in the second half and there were too many mishit passes against a strong Bohs side.

Brian Murphy was comfortable thoughout the second half and with a two goal lead Bohs could afford to sit back and soak up what pressure United could throw at them.

On 79 minutes Dave Cooke sent in a low shot that skimmed of the slippery surface, but Brian Murphy was able to see the ball out.

That was the only shot United had in the second half and Bohemians saw the game out comfortably.

Ian Foster will have been greatly disappointed with his sides display as Bohs failed to impress and apart from the two mistakes United made, Bohs created very little.

Galway will have to regroup for the Drogheda game on Friday and up their performance quite considerably. United then face a League Cup game on Monday in Terryland against Salthill Devon before Shamrock Rovers visit Terryland.
