Result: Bray Wanderers 2 Galway United 2 United's 100% start to the season came to an end after coming close to getting their third straight victory of the season. However, Ian Foster will be relieved to keep his unbeaten run after Barry Ryan prevented the home side from getting an unlikely winner in injury time when he pulled off a fine save from the penalty spot. Bray were unbeaten in the League this season after two draws in their opening games and this trip was always going to be a tricky fixture. United were minutes away from securing another victory but a late penalty by the home side put a dent in United's excellent start to the season. United took an early lead in the eight minute through Vinny Faherty. Jay O'Shea's deep delivery went to the back post, Shane Guthrie guided the ball back for Faherty to finish from close range for his second of the season.
Bray hit back in the 16th minute through a Paddy Kavanagh header to level matters. United went back in front on 21 minutes after Cian McBrien drifted in from the left and fired a shot past by Chris O'Connor for his first senior goal in the League of Ireland.
Late drama unfolded and Bray were awarded two penalties late on.
Jake Kelly's 88th minute long range effort was handled by Garry Breen. Gary McCabe converted the penalty for Bray to make it 2-2.
Seconds into time added on, McCabe was upended by Iarfhlaith Davoren. The Bray player picked himself to take the spot kick, but Barry Ryan made a fantastic save to maintain United's unbeaten start. |
