| Shamrock Rovers A 2-1 Galway United A | |
|
For the second time this weekend, United played against Shamrock Rovers, as the "A" squad travelled to Tallaght Stadium for this afternoons encounter.
Today's match proved to be a lively affair in which United matched the home side in all areas of the pitch. A bright sunny day with a strong wind which contributed to good footballing occasion. Galway started the game very well, pushing forward from the off, getting a corner in the first five minutes which needed to be cleared after an attempt by Enda Curran. Galway held a high line and were pushing Rovers back into their own half. A good through ball in the first half saw the Galway defence pulled out, allowing the Rovers to score after 20 mins. Soon after, Curran was replaced by Ray King due to knee injury and in the 40th min, after a good spell of pressure, Darragh Duggan scored from the edge of the 18-yard box, bringing the teams level once again at half-time. As play resumed Paul Smith was lost to an ankle injury, as a result of a first half tackle. Galway United A manager John 'Jumbo' Brennan was then forced into re-organising the team as centre back Shane McInerney was introduced in place of Smith. United continued to play good football, with ball to feet and taking the game to Rovers in the process. Unfortunately for the away side, a good shot from the edge of the box undid United and gave Rovers the win in what was a good match in which United acquitted themselves well, but also picked up some additional injuries.
