Galway United completed their pre-season campaign with a 2-1 loss to Sligo Rovers in the Sligo Showgrounds.

Sligo opened the scoring early in the second half when former Galway United man John Russell tucked a well placed shot into the far corner, giving Conor Winn no chance.

The home side doubled their lead on the 53rd minute when a clever pass from John Russell played in Eoin Doyle, the former Shamrock Rovers man slotted past Conor Winn.

United got themselves back into the game when Jason Mitchell headed in an Ally Love free kick, but the home side held on for a deserved victory.
