Christy Fagan's early goal, along with Killian Brennan's second half penalty, ensured Bohs took all three points at Dalymount Park.

Crisis-club Galway were behind after just 75 seconds when Fagan got on the end of a throw-in and slotted sweetly into the net.

It looked like the floodgates would then open, but the second didn't come until the 74th minute when Brennan smashed his spot-kick high into the roof of the net.

The damage could have been worse for Galway, but for some good saves by goalkeeper Conor Winn.

Galway arrived in Dublin with a threadbare squad due to the ongoing financial difficulties at the club and manager Sean Connor had only three substitutes on the bench.

The reality of the situation was well illustrated by the odds offered by bookmakers for the game. Galway were available at 25/1 with some outlets whilst Bohs were a best-priced 1/14 at most bookies.

A one-sided affair looked likely before kick-off and even more so when Bohs took the lead on 75 seconds. A throw-in came to the feet of Fagan and he made no mistake when slotting past Winn in the Galway goal.

Fagan had an excellent start for Bohs and Paul Sinnott did well on four minutes to dispossess him inside the box when the Gypsies hit-man was bearing down on goal.

Wynn was kept busy as the game developed, the keeper making saves from Ollie Cahill and Brennan amongst others. Barry Murphy in the Bohs goal had very little to do early on and the first action at that end came on 16 minutes when Mike Gilmore was yellow-carded by referee Anthony Buttimer for diving in the box.

Sinnott foiled Fagan again on 22 minutes with a vital intervention after Fagan got on the end of Keith Buckley's pass.

Winn continued to be kept busy by Bohs and Galway had him to thank for several decent saves - one of the best came on 29 minutes when he blocked Brennan's low drive with his feet. Buckley then played a superb pass in to Ger O'Brien on 37 minutes, but with Fagan and Anto Flood waiting in the box, O'Brien smashed his cross out of play.

Bohs had much the better of the chances after the break with Winn making a fine save from O'Brien on 49 minutes.

A flurry of activity then began on 59 when Fagan hit the upright with Winn stranded.

The United net-minder then saved well from Flood moments later, before Fagan hit the same post again on 60, with Buckley then blasting the rebound high and wide.

Fagan was really getting stuck in for Bohs and had a great header on 62 minutes, but was denied by the other post.

Bohs looked likely to double their advantage and they eventually did on 74 minutes.

Sinnott took down Aidan Downes in the box and referee Buttimer pointed to the spot.

Brennan stepped up and crashed that fierce spot kick into the roof of the net.

Winn made several more good saves as the game wound down, the best of them when palming a shot from Downes away on 89 minutes.
